Few things are more disheartening and frustrating to fans of series as when their scheduling is wonky. You know, three weeks on, two weeks off. Shows lose momentum and the less committed fans lose interest and everyone gets scared that the show will get canceled.
Happily, ABC has announced its plans to run at least some of its shows’ seasons with few to no interruptions, before and after the winter break, and that’s good news (and slightly bad news) for us.
It affects Once Upon a Time and new series Resurrection. Once Upon a Time in Wonderland is of course not affected since it is, at least currently, considered to be a limited, 13-episode series.
The bad news part of the decision is that we’ll be waiting a bit before we’ll see the return and the premiere. Both shows will air on Sunday, March 9, with the midseason premiere of Once Upon a Time at 8/7c, and the series premiere of Resurrection at 10/9c. A Not One of Our Shows will air in between – Revenge, for those of you who are fans.
Once Upon a Time co-showrunner Adam Horowitz has said in a few different forums that each half of the season will be treated as a separate, 11-episode season, each with a separate arc. Although it would be nice to believe that means that the break will be easier to take because we’ll get some resolution at midseason, I expect it’s more likely to mean that we’ll get a big juicy cliffhanger in December and we’ll have to wait three months for its resolution. Ah well, we shall see…
And here’s a reminder that Resurrection, at least the screener version they’ve made available, is not the sappy show that the trailer may lead you to believe. You can see a bit more about that here.
Once Upon a Time, starring Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Lana Parrilla, Robert Carlyle, Jared Gilmore, Colin O’Donoghue, Meaghan Ohry, and Raphael Sbarge, premieres Sunday, September 29 at 8/7c, and has its midseason premiere on Sunday, March 9 at 8/7c on ABC.
Resurrection, starring Omar Epps, Matt Craven, Devin Kelley, Frances Fisher, Kurtwood Smith, Sam Hazeldine, Samaire Armstrong, Nicholas Gonzalez, Mark Hildreth and Landon Gimenez, premieres on Sunday, March 9 at 10/9c on ABC.
