THE CROW: Updates On The Reboot – Casting, Script And The Iconic Makeup

brandonleecrowwide

We brought you the news back in July that Director Stephen Norrington was planning a reboot of Alex Proyas’ The Crow. io9 recently spoke with producer Ryan Kavanaugh who had a few updates on the project. First he talked a bit about the script,

The script is great. We’re very excited about it. The Crow is definitely going to happen, we’re just getting all the pieces together right now. It’s not officially greenlit, but it’s going to happen… I think in a couple months we could have the package together for sure.

On casting, Kavanaugh wouldn’t say who they’re looking at, but he did say;

“We’re looking. We’re in discussions… I think it’s something cool, we’re approaching it differently. It’s really a whole relaunch of the franchise, much more of a dark superhero type. It will be an actor you’ve heard of, yes. We’re not ruling anything out. We’re looking at both, with the very well known and the ‘very talented but they may not be quite there yet.’”

On whether or not they are looking for a well known actor, he said;

“It will be an actor you’ve heard of, yes. We’re not ruling anything out. We’re looking at both, with the very well known and the “very talented but they may not be quite there yet.”

On it’s similarity to the original he said;

“It’s not a remake it’s literally a relaunch of the franchise.”

On the whether or not the iconic makeup from the original will return in the new film, he said;

“No, totally different… He’ll have makeup, but it will be different. The best way to compare it is the first Batman and Batman Begins. In terms of their look and feel and character.”

    I still don’t approve of this…but what can you do? I know I’ll go see and I hope it turns out well. I’ll be interested to see who they can.

      I’ll be interested to see who they cast*

      • Jason Moore says:

        I just wish they’d use a different name for the movie if they’re going a different way on the story, the look and the makeup.. the fact that they’re making “The Crow” in name only, smacks of capitalizing on the success of James O’Barr’s character and Brandon Lee’s original portrayal without paying either of them the respect that they deserve.

        I’ll wait and rent it on DVD, I’d rather be mortified at home for 1/4 the price.
