Marvel Set To Reprint Alan Moore’s ‘Marvelman’

MiraclemanMarvel Comics will reprint Alan Moore’s celebrated run on Marvelman, it has been announced.

Moore has agreed to allow comics he wrote in the 1980s to be reprinted, but said in an interview with Mania.com that he does not want Marvel to use his name.

“I’m very happy for this book to get published – because that means money will finally go to Marvelman’s creator, Mick Anglo, and to his wife,” said Moore.

“The actual Marvelman story is such a grim and ugly one that I would probably rather that the work was published without my name on it, and that all of the money went to Mick.

“The decision about my name was largely based upon my history with Marvel – my desire to really have nothing to do with them, and my increasing desire to have nothing to do with the American comics industry.

“I mean, there probably are enough books out there with my name on them to keep the comics industry afloat for a little bit longer.”

Moore also hinted that Neil Gaiman, his original successor on the title, might write a conclusion for the story, which was canceled before it could be completed.

Moore’s run was originally published in America by Eclipse Comics under the title of Miracleman after Marvel objected to the use of the Marvelman name.

Marvel announced its acquisition of the Marvelman rights at Comic-Con International, San Diego in July.

I don’t care how much of a genius Alan Moore is (or was), and most people know that he’s arrogant but he truly has to be the most arrogant human being on the planet if he thinks it’s only his name keeping the American comic book industry afloat.

I think Alan Moore is/was a great writer but his arrogance is astounding. Personally, I think the man needs to get over himself, sadly all the accolades he’s recieved has only made his head bigger.

I still think Gaiman is the better writer, and Mr. Gaiman has never come off as a tool. Alan Moore really does need to get his huge hobo looking head out of his ass.

“Alan Moore really does need to get his huge hobo looking head out of his ass.” <- That was funny Mike!

I totally agree and I’m probably the most biased person on the planet to make a comment about Gaiman because not only do I think he’s easily one of the greatest writers of the past couple decades, he’s also probably one of the nicest guys on the planet as well.

I frankly wish Alan Moore would just fade of into obscurity, but every once in awhile he pops up to let everyone know how amazing he is, how horrible the comic book industry is and how all comics (aside from his own) suck.

The only thing astounding about Moore now, is the size of his ego.
