Best..News..Ever!
The posters are cool, the viral videos have and have already inspired excitement to see the film, and now the MPAA has given the Neil Blomkamp directed, Peter Jackson produced Sci-Fi film ‘District 9′ a glorious ‘R’ rating!
We had assumed that it would naturally get a PG-13 rating (like most films these days) but apparently the gritty viral videos and trailers haven’t shown us anything yet and it’s probably safe to assume that the film makers haven’t cut out a ton of “good stuff” to appease the studio execs if it has garnered an ‘R’ rating {for bloody violence and pervasive language}.
While that alone doesn’t gurantee the film will be great (or even good), it does inspire some confidence that it’s not going to be the same old, sugar coated nonsense that the Sci-Fi Fans have been subjected to in recent memory.

Good, I hope it’s a hard ‘R’ rating. We need more hardcore unfiltered flicks.
We do too. We hope it means that it will be as gritty and realistic as the trailers and viral videos make it seem. Honestly, we were worried all the viral videos would end up being misleading and it would get watered down prior to release, so this is good news!
It’s a shame we’ll never see Neil’s take on Halo. Those shorts he made looked pretty badass.
Never say never, everyone may have to take a second look at the project after D9 comes out. Since this is Blomkamp’s first big outing, if it does well it may spark something.. who knows?
There are so many movies that we thought would be amazing and then found out they were not rated ‘R’ and we knew they’d end up awful.
